What are we waiting for? Here we go!
Itinerary: This is a typical itinerary for our Stirling City Trip. 3-hour guided tour – sights of your choosing!
Yes, Edinburgh may be iconic, and Glasgow may be Scotland’s cultural hub, but have you ever been to Stirling?
If you’re searching for a serious serving of Scottish culture, look no further than the beautiful city of Stirling. Built on the winding bends of the River Forth, Stirling may be a small city, but it boasts a big history! If its tangle of ancient streets could talk, they’d certainly have some stories to tell. Our 3-hour Stirling City trip provides the perfect opportunity to hear them all.
There are endless sites to see and enjoy in Stirling; first and foremost, the city is overshadowed by the imposing Stirling Castle, which has dominated the landscape from its Castle Hill vantage point for over 900 years. As arguably one of the most important castles in Scotland, both architecturally and historically, the fortress played a pivotal role in the Scottish Wars of Independence, and it’s also where many Scottish Kings and Queens were crowned, including Mary Queen of Scots in 1542. If you only have time to visit just one of Scotland’s many castles, you couldn’t find yourself anywhere better than Stirling!
And of course, no visit to Stirling could ever be complete without a visit to its second most visible landmark, the Wallace Monument. Perched high upon the hilltop of Abbey Craig, the colossal 67 metre high Gothic sandstone tower celebrates the life and times of Scotland’s most celebrated war hero; Sir William Wallace. And if you’re up for a challenge, the structure’s iconic crown offers breathtaking 360° views across Scotland’s historic heartland, if you fancy climbing the 246 step spiral staircase to get up there! But to get to Abbey Craig from the city centre, we’ll of course have to cross Old Stirling Bridge; the sight of the legendary Battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, whilst also being the best-preserved medieval masonry arch bridge in Scotland!
Or perhaps you’re looking for the traditional areas of Stirling? We know just the place to take you! The Old Town area, or “Top of the Town” as it’s known by locals, survives surprisingly intact from its ancient origins in the early 1100’s. A visit to the likes of Broad Street, Castle Wynd and Ballengeich Pass will discover a range of secret attractions, including Mar’s Wark, Argyll’s Lodging, and the infamous Old Town Jail; a favourite haunt of Jock “The Happy Hangman” Rankin! If you’re brave enough to venture inside, their observation tower is THE place to get an unforgettable view of Stirling Castle, so make sure you bring your cameras with you.
Of course, these are all just suggestions of the many great attractions Stirling has to offer hungry adventurers like yourself. What you see is completely up to you! Just let our team know what your interests are, and we’ll design the perfect 3-hour Stirling City trip for you and your guests; packed full with deep diving information on each stop, plenty of hidden gems and of course, some remarkable memory-making along the way!
