No one comes to Scotland for the weather; it is beautifully unpredictable but if you want regular sun you should hot foot it to the Mediterranean.

So, my golf-obsessed friend, where do you want to tee off?
There are hundreds of golf courses in Scotland, (there is even a free short course in the middle of the city at Bruntsfield Links). Where do you go when you wish to worship at the temple of golf that isn’t St. Andrews?
Muirfield, Gullane www.muirfield.org.uk. Established in 1744, host to 15 British Opens, this private course can be experienced by you if you book in advance. The course has changed little since 1936, but in 2008 golf architect Martin Hawtree was commissioned to ensure that the courses at Muirfield remained a challenge to experienced golfers.
Royal Dornoch, www.royaldornoch.com ranked 6th in the world and 1st on Scotland by Golf Digest. Established in 1877, a royal club for more than a century, this wild and isolated golf course is the site of the Northern Open, the Scottish Ladies and Scottish Professional Championship, this is not a course to be missed.
Royal Troon (Old), www.royaltroon.co.uk established in 1878, this challenging public course (you have strong wind, plus in the deep rough gorse and broom to contend with) has been host to eight British Opens and famous for the Postage Stamp, the itty bitty 123yard-par 3’s green. Will that be somewhere you need to tee off?
